On July 28th 2013, Christ Church dedicated its new memorial garden in honor of the ministry of Pastor Carol A. Bender who retired after serving Christ Church for many years. The garden, with waterfall and a bench for quiet contemplation, serves as an alternative to traditional interment. It grew out of a dream and was given in love. Throughout her 23 years of ministry at Christ Church, Rev. Bender had a dream of the church providing an outdoor sanctuary of welcome, rest, and prayer.
Upon her retirement in November 2013, the congregation lovingly recognized her many years of faithful service by creating this sacred garden in her honor.
Located beside the educational wing of the church, this tranquil refuge will be a resting place for generations to come. Its beautiful foliage throughout the seasons and comforting water will provide a place for respite and remembrance.
Everyone who is interred in the garden will be registered in the Memorial Garden Book with the name, birth, and death dates. Their names will also be inscribed on the Tree of Remembrance located in the church library overlooking the garden, instead of on a marker within the garden.
